Scattered throughout Link’s Awakening are 32 Heart Pieces that, for every four collected, will permanently add a Heart to Link’s health bar. That’s significantly more than the amount hidden in the original Game Boy and Game Boy Color versions! Finding them will help you survive against big bosses and creepy dungeon enemies alike. Here’s where and how to find every Heart Piece in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for Nintendo Switch. This guide is complete!

In addition to the Heart Pieces, there are also 10 Heart Containers that add a full Heart to Link's health if you collect one. Eight of them are at the end of each dungeon; the other two are for clearing all the Tier 1 and Tier 3 Arrange Dungeon challenges at Dampé's Shack.

If you want a region-based list, head to the All Heart Piece Locations - By Region page.

Sword

The Sword is the earliest item in the game, found in Toronbo Shores, allowing you to kill enemies and slice grass and Bushes, all of which drop Rupees. Without it, you can't find a single Heart Piece! All of the Heart Pieces in this section can be found before entering your first dungeon.

Heart Piece 1

Heart Piece 1

At the start of the game, enter the Trendy Game in Mabe Village and grab it with the crane. If you've only just started, you may need to get your Sword from Toronbo Shores so you can cut the Bushes encircling the building, as well as get Rupees from the grass to pay for a go.

Heart Piece 2

Heart Piece 2

Available to purchase in the Town Tool Shop for 200 Rupees at the start of the game. If you've just started the game, you may need to get your Sword from Toronbo Shores; this lets you cut grass for Rupees. A great way to get cash quick is to get the Purple Rupee (worth 50 Rupees!) from the Trendy Game a couple of times.

Heart Piece 3

Heart Piece 3

Awarded for catching your first fish in the Mabe Village fishing minigame at the Fishing Pond. If you're clever, you can get this and Heart Piece 4 by making a Medium Fish your first catch!

In the Mabe Village well just above the library; slash the Bushes on the cliff above and jump in! If you don't have your Sword yet, you can pick it up on the beach in Toronbo Shores. The Heart Piece will be next to where you land in the well, as well as a handy set of stairs to get back out.

Roc's Feather

The Roc's Feather is the reward for clearing Tail Cave, the first dungeon. It allows Link to jump over potholes and other fall-related obstacles, but only if they're a single tile wide.

Heart Piece 6

Heart Piece 6

Just outside the East exit of the Mysterious Woods, you’ll see this Heart Piece in the grassy area surrounded by potholes. Jump over the potholes to get it!

From the location of Heart Piece 6, go North to the sign and then East behind the trees to get to Tabahl Wasteland, the area with the spooky dead trees. Look in the North-East corner of this area for some pits to jump over with the Roc's Feather; behind the right-hand tree will be the Piece.

Power Bracelet

The Power Bracelet is the reward for clearing Bottle Grotto, the second dungeon. With it, Link is able to lift up dark grey boulders and skulls that would otherwise block his path.

Heart Piece 8

Heart Piece 8

At the North-West exit of the Mysterious Woods, jump South over the potholes and go into the log; in this cave, push the rocks and use the Power Bracelet to throw the skulls away to get to the Piece. If you get stuck, exit and re-enter the room to reset the rock positions.

Heart Piece 9

Heart Piece 9

In the cave just to the right of Mabe Village's East exit with the Bushes and Boulders, head North towards the cliff with the cave entry. Inside, push the rocks and use the Power Bracelet to throw the skulls so you can reach the Heart Piece.

From the entrance to Bottle Grotto, go East to the three boulders and get past them and onto the elevated section. Continue East past the first ladder and on to the second, which should be directly North of Dampé's Shack. Enter the cave surrounded by Boulders, then get to the right-hand side of the cave. Head in, go right, and push the blocks until you can grab the Heart Piece just sitting on the ground.

Heart Piece 11

Heart Piece 11

In the North-East corner of Ukuku Prairie will be a seashell-like building known as the Seashell Mansion. Collect five Secret Seashells, then head to the mansion and stand on the pedestal to receive the Heart Piece.

Pegasus Boots

The Pegasus Boots are awarded for completing Key Cavern, the third dungeon. By holding down L, or ZL, Link can charge forward, breaking the black crystals(?) and letting him use the Roc's Feather to jump over gaps three tiles wide!

Heart Piece 12

Heart Piece 12

Warp to the Ukuku Prairie Warp Pad and head up to the right of the three trees just above the Warp Pad. You’ll see a bombable wall to the right of the trees that leads to a small cave. Inside the cave, use the Pegasus Boots to destroy the crystal rocks(?) and head to the Northern end of the cave. You should see a small crack in the wall on the right; Bomb it and enter the door and get the Heart Piece.

Heart Piece 13

Heart Piece 13

This Piece is located in Pothole Field, where Prince Richard's villa is; Head into the villa and use the cave route to get to the field itself. Head to the North-East corner and, once there, perform a Spin Attack to slash the Bushes in the way of the Heart Piece (you may have to get quite close in order to get the farthest row of Bushes). Once clear, use the Pegasus Boots to jump over the potholes and get the Heart Piece.

Heart Piece 14

Heart Piece 14

This Heart Piece will show up in Mabe Village's Trendy Game after you've completed Key Cavern. You may have to clear the game of Mario toys and Seashells before it'll show up.

Complete the "Fill Up Your Hearts" Arrange Dungeon in Dampé's Shack, the last of the Tier 1 Arrange Dungeon challenges. If you're having trouble filling up the heart shape, try beating the Color Dungeon, which will unlock a lot of useful Dungeon Chambers for you to use (as well as a really easy Boss Chamber!).

Heart Piece 16

Heart Piece 16

Right above the entrance to the Animal Village. To get here, leave the village from the South-West exit, then go East to the Walrus' spot, then go North, and finally West until you find the Heart Piece at the end.

Heart Piece 17

In a cave in the North-East corner of Yarna Desert near an owl statue, head in the cave and walk through the two rooms until you can Bomb a wall open, then grab the Heart Piece.

Flippers

The Flippers are awarded at the end of Angler's Tunnel, the fourth dungeon. These allow Link to swim in deep water, as well as Dive by pressing the B button.

Heart Piece 18

Heart Piece 18

From the entrance to Angler's Tunnel, swim East past the triple waterfall until you get to a cave entrance: swim inside and then dive into the water for it.

Heart Piece 19

Heart Piece 19

Located in the water along the left side of the bridge into Kanalet Castle. Annoyingly you can't swim under the bridge, so instead go to the Telephone Booth in the North-East corner of the castle and use the steps there to get into the water.

Heart Piece 20

Heart Piece 20

This Heart Piece is located in the river "underpass" which you used to get to Animal Village for the first time, in the East side of Ukuku Prairie. Head into the underpass and dive in the deep part of the water for the Heart Piece.

Heart Piece 21

Heart Piece 21

This Heart Piece is found in Martha's Bay, directly South of the Mermaid statue and surrounded by potholes and Bushes. Use the Pegasus Boots to jump across and then slash the Bushes before you land. Head down the stairs into the cave and, in the waters of the cave, dive for the Heart Piece.

Heart Piece 22

Heart Piece 22

Dive in the waters of Martha's Bay just South of the Mermaid Statue near the rocks to find this very well hidden Heart Piece.

Hookshot

The Hookshot is found in Catfish's Maw, the fifth dungeon. It can stun enemies it hits, but more importantly it can latch onto objects like stones, tree stumps and Treasure Chests and pull Link across enormous gaps!

Heart Piece 23

From the Walrus' spot between Animal Village and Yarna Desert, head directly North alongside Animal Village and find the cracked spot of the cliff in the corner; Bomb it to get inside.

Inside the cave, take the doorway directly North of the entrance to the short wall in the middle of the picture above. Here, toss a Bomb over the short wall so that it destroys the cracked rock. Now go back and go through the other doorway near the Spark enemy so you can use the Hookshot to get to the Heart Piece. To exit, jump down to where you tossed the Bomb!

Heart Piece 24

Heart Piece 24

During the rafting mini-game, take your raft to the West-most entrance of the area and quickly Hookshot your way to the left. Ride the currents down to find a small island with this Heart Piece.

Heart Piece 25

Heart Piece 25

Set an okay time in the Rapids Race minigame; about 40 seconds will do, and is quite do-able with the Hookshot.

From the exit of the raft minigame, take a left to find and get into the tunnel back to the start. At the North end of the tunnel, use the Hookshot to go up and then right to get to the Heart Piece.

Heart Piece 27

Heart Piece 27

This Heart Piece is awarded for completing all four Arrange Dungeon challenges in Tier 2 in Dampé's Shack. They can be completed in any order but all 4 must be completed to be awarded the Heart Piece.

Heart Piece 28

Heart Piece 28

To find this Heart Piece, first use the ladder above the triple waterfall in Eastern Tal Tal Mountain Range to get to the Cucco House, the shack with the green roof. From here, use the Hookshot to go West along the bridge, then slash the Bush at the end to enter a cave. Once inside, look for the cracked part of the cave wall along the South wall and Bomb it. Head into this room, then go right into another room with the Heart Piece.

Heart Piece 29

Heart Piece 29

Use the instructions for Heart Piece 28 above to get to the cave entrance hidden under the bush. Continue East through the cave until you emerge on the other side. Get through the section with the falling rocks, then at the top go West across the bridge. Here, drop down into the rock field and continue West as far as you can go to find the Heart Piece. Phew!

Heart Piece 30

Heart Piece 30

Return to the Mysterious Forest and enter the log in the North part of the forest surrounded by three boulders. Hookshot your way to the Treasure Chest and then over to the rocks where the Heart Piece is.

Heart Piece 31

Heart Piece 31

From the Witch's Hut in Koholint Prairie, head South into the lower dirt area and clear the boulders on the East side to enter the cave. Here, go left to Bomb the cracked rock and Hookshot your way over to the Heart Piece.

Mirror Shield

The Mirror Shield is found inside Eagle's Tower, the seventh dungeon in the game. It can bounce back enemy projectiles, and while it isn't used to directly get to a Heart Piece, you'll need it to access Turtle Rock, where the Heart Piece listed below can be found.

Heart Piece 32

Heart Piece 32

The final Heart Piece in the game is a tricky one. In the North-West area of the Turtle Rock dungeon (the last one in the game), you'll enter a room with two Rope snakes, a flying Vire, an elevated Treasure Chest in the North-East corner, and some stairs on the North wall. Take the staircase up and you’ll actually be back outside in the overworld again, where a Heart Piece waits just above you. You can also open up a Warp Pad here in case you’d ever like to come back and admire the view.
