Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is a 216 bed, all male, forensic, mental health rehabilitation facility. The Center is located in northeast Gainesville, Florida on 639 picturesque acres with regular sightings of deer, turkey and other wildlife. NFETC employs a variety of entry level to leadership positions including food service, maintenance, direct care, nurses, counselors, rehab therapists, medical doctors, security, psychiatrists, and psychologists.

THIS IS AN ANTICIPATED VACANCY.

This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve as Behavioral Specialist- F/C. This position will collaborate with each section within the state facilities and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities and should be extraordinarily detail oriented.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Participates in the development and delivery of psycho-educational groups. Documentation of findings from assessments and group notes; to include timely chart documentation, maintenance of electronic versions and entry of resident participation into the resident data base.
  • Document observations and progress by completing and posting to the resident’s building chart and / or the resident database, required progress notes, event notes and incident reports as required.
  • Upon referral from the team conducts individual support counseling sessions (Wellness Sessions) for the purpose of obtaining forensic treatment goals. Documentation of resident participation to include maintenance of electronic versions and entering in the participation in the resident data base.
  • Plan, coordinate and facilitate NGI-Wide recreational and social activities and events, designed to identify and reduce discharge barriers, model and promote appropriate social interaction skills and enhance overall health and wellness.
  • Participates on their assigned Recovery Teams and all required team meetings. Participates in delivering staff training, when assigned or appropriate.
  • Participation in hospital-wide projects, committees, staff meetings and NGI Program meetings. Complete current training required by the facility within the allotted timeframes. Attendance at relevant or required in-service training and workshops as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position:

  • Knowledge of the theories and principles of clinical, counseling or behavioral psychology.
  • Knowledge of psychological testing principles and practices.
  • Ability to administer and interpret psychological tests.
  • Ability to prepare psychological reports.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret psychological data.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling or psychology.
  • Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
