Clifton, NJ
Clifton is a city in southeastern Passaic County with a population of about 84,000 people. It covers an area of 11.42 square miles. Surrounding Clifton is Nutley to the south and Woodland Park to the northwest. Within the city you can find such asGarden Palace Bowling, Clifton Arts Center, and Allwood Cinemas 6. Many scenes from The Sopranos were filmed in town, including the parking lot of the Valley Regency, Main Memorial Park, and Clifton High School. The golf scenes were filmed at the Upper Montclair Country Club. The Sopranos is not the city’s only claim to fame. The character of Rupert Pupkin in Martin Scorsese’s film “The King of Comedy” comes from Clifton. There’s also an old sewerage system of note as well, known as the “Gates of Hell”. With walls covered in graffiti, it’s not actively maintained by any municipal authority or utility. Those brave enough have explored and earned it a feature in Weird New Jersey.
